Scope and Content
Amon W. Updike Correspondence consists of photocopies of five letters (1864-1865) from Updike while camped in New Kent, Chesterfield, and Henrico counties, Virginia, to his sister, Phebe Arthur.
The collection also includes photocopies of letters (1861-1862) from Phebe Arthur to her husband Henry; letters from Henry to Phebe and to other family members; and a letter from J.O. Hensley, Arthur's captain, informing Phebe of her husband's death.
