Scope and Content
The John Barbour, Jr. Letters are comprised of two one‐page missives from a Virginia senator and president of the Orange and Alexander Railroad Company to William M. Burwell, Esquire. The letters were written to Alexandria, Virginia, in 1854, and concern raising support in Albemarle County for the extension of the railroad between Charlottesville and Lynchburg. Also mentioned are internal improvements
in addition to several appreciative and laudatory remarks to Mr. Burwell.
