Scope and Content

From the Collection:

Collection consists of six letters written to Adelaide Colcock from family members. Five of the letters were written during the Civil War. Three of the letters come from her father, William Ferguson Colcock. The other letters come from her sister and her cousin "Charlie." Most of the letters are inquiries about the wellbeing of family members. There is some discussion of family members serving in the war as well as a few opinions about how the war is going. The first letter from "Bubber Charlie" states, "The Yankees are a very bad people and won't let us alone."
