The McBryde Family Papers contains materials concerning Dr. John McLaren McBryde and his family, dating from 1859 to the 1920s. Included in the collection are photographs and documents mainly relating to McBryde's life and death, a Sweet Briar College program, newspaper clippings, and an unbound photograph album (20 leaves) with photographs of the University of South Carolina, Washington and Lee University, and early images of the VPI campus and the surrounding town of Blacksburg.

Additionally included are copies of the correspondence between Dr. John McLaren McBryde and the University of Virginia regarding an offer for its presidency, as well as research gathered by Dr. John McLaren McBryde, Jr. in an attempt to create a biography of his father.
