MSS. Manuscript Collections

This collection contains photographs, publications, journals, writings and artifacts pertaining to Earl H. Hornbarger's time as a student at VPI, his later career as an engineer with Westinghouse Electric Company, and his involvement as a VPI alumnus.

This collection contains a ledger book, circa 1914, containing academic work of students (math, history, and english). Each page includes the name and grade of the student, as well as the teacher.

This collection consists of a recipe book containing printed and handwritten recipes compiled by Katherine G. Cary. Recipes include soups, breads, fish, salad dressing, sauces, pickles, and more.

The Floyd H. Fish Railroad Collection contains articles, magazines, and newspaper clippings involving the railroad industry in the 20th century. The collection also includes books, cataloged for the Special Collections Rare Book Collection.

The William F. Drumeller, Jr. Collection includes VPI publications, school papers/notes/notebooks, ephemera, and photographs of William F. Drumeller, a student and cadet at VPI from 1942-1943 and 1946-1949.

The collection consists of a handwritten collection of recipes, household accounts, and schoolwork from Litchfield family of Abingdon, Virginia. In addition to recipes for pickles and preserving, cakes, puddings, breads, and meats, there are also directions for home products like furniture polish, and lists of greenhouse plants.

The Mary Josephine Hartwick VPI Memorabilia and Scrapbook contains a scrapbook filled with photos of the VPI campus as well as inlaid letters and tickets to both on and off campus events in the mid 1920s. Included in the collection are a VPI tie tack and belt buckle, a track medal for shot put, and a plaque that reads "Founding Members."

The collection contains material collected by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). Materials include pamphlets, scrapbooks, photographs, negatives, slides, video tapes, invitations, and programs from department, college, and university events.

The John F. Crosby Papers collection contains John Crosby's research, letters of inquiry, correspondence, and genealogy charts pertaining to his manuscript "Brother vs. Brother: Divided Families in the Civil War.

The collection contains various receipts mostly from Augusta and Bath County, VA. These items date from 1780 to 1848.
