Elizabeth Barton Smith Payne Letter
Letter of Elizabeth Barton Smith Payne, a resident of Fauquier County, Virginia during the Civil War. The letter mourns loved ones killed in battle and mentions raids by soldiers, the capture and imprisonment of a brother, and a son's desire to join the army.
Appalachian Electric Power Company Photographs
This collection contains three photographs from the Appalachian Electric Power Company. While the photograph of the Executive Committee of the A.E.P. Social Club does not have a known date, the photograph of the A.E.P. Company's First Aid Class was taken in Roanoke, Virginia, in 1931. The photograph of the participants in the Service Pin Dinner is dated to 1956.

Letter from H. E. Norton, a soldier in a Michigan brigade headquartered at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas just after the Civil War, describing journey from Washington and complaining that the brigade had been "sold" by the Michigan governor for political purposes.
John McCauley Letters
Letter from John McCauley of Salem, Virginia to "Edward," describing arrival at home, advising Edward not to accompany fellow soldiers who steal from the local populace, and relaying news of an upcoming benefit exhibition for the soldiers in the area. Also includes a letter to "Susan," detailing excitement around the regiment's experiences in First Bull Run (1861).
James C. Franklin Letter
Letter from James C. Franklin, of the 57th Virginia Infantry, to wife Susan in Galveston (Pittsylvania County), Virginia, describing a recent, difficult march through rain and snow near Fredericksburg, recounting a massive snowball fight between Toombs' and Cross' brigades, and advising his brother to bring a surgeon's certificate when he returns to duty.

This collection contains two photographs (1940), a newspaper article (1946), and an index card with notes from the article (n.d.)relating to the Zion Lutheran Church near Crockett, Virginia. The collection also contains a photograph (1923) and a mailer (1916) from the Zion Lutheran Church in Floyd, Virginia.
