Biographical Note
Andrew Johnson was the seventeenth President of the United States (1865-1869), following Lincoln's assassination. Johnson presided over the Reconstruction. Johnson was criticized as being too sympathetic to southern white males in his plan for reconstruction. Johnson was the first President of the United States to be impeached; however he was not removed from office.
