Hiram Matthew Papers,
Scope and Content
This collection consists of twenty-two letters of outgoing correspondence from Union soldier Hiram Matthew to his wife Elmira Matthew of Campbellsburg Washington County Indiana. The correspondence includes descriptions of a soldier's life including, but not limited to, health aliments suffered during the war; punishments suffered for crimes committed during war; and battle accounts, including accounts of the Siege of Atlanta. Eleven letters between the dates of February 1, 1863 and June 27, 1863 were written from Corinth, Mississippi. Eight letters were written between November 24, 1864 and March 15, 1864 from Pulaski, Tennessee. The last letter is dated April 28, 1865 from Raleigh, North Carolina.

Biographical Information
Hiram Matthew was a union soldier from Campbellsburg in Washington County, Indiana. He was a member of the 66th Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry.
