Letter from a Union corporal from Massachusetts in the Civil War. Writes to his brother at home, telling him that he will try for a commission when he soon returns on furlough. Has heard that there are a number of chances for commissions in colored regiments that the Governor of Massachusetts was raising, and he hopes to become an officer in one.
