Soldier in Company E of the 24th Virginia Volunteer Regiment during the Civil War. Papers consist of reports by surgeons in Dublin, Virginia, of their examinations of Viar, declaring him unfit for field duty. Also includes a note by a fellow soldier of Viar's to his family with saying that he is sending documents home with Viar.
