Despina Stratigakos Architectural Collection,
Scope and Content
The Despina Stratigakos collection is comprised of her vita and published works including her dissertation and articles exploring the public image of women architects in Wilhelm, Germany (early 20th century), the contributions of women in re-building of Berlin, Germany, and exiled Jewish women architects in America. The collection also contains a 2011 Architect Barbie from Mattel and press releases concerning her creation.

Biographical Information
Despina Stratigakos completed her doctoral thesis in the History of Art at Bryn Mawr College. She specializes in Nineteenth and Twentieth-Century European art and architecture, women architects and designers in Europe and the United States, and the theories of gender and design. Stratigakos' dissertation entitled, "Skirts and Scaffolding: women architects, gender and design in Wilhelmine Germany" explores the advancement of women into architecture from approximately 1900-1920.
Stratigakos is currently (2009) an assistant Professor at University at Buffalo, School of Architecture and Planning. Previously she has held positions at Illinois State University, Grinnell College, the University of Iowa and at the Visual Arts Center in Montreal.
Stratigakos also successfully lobbied the Mattel toy company for the inclusion of an architect to the 'Barbie I Can Be...' series. Architect became the 127th career for Barbie in 2011.
