Scope and Content

The Kerstin Dorhofer Collection consists mainly of two bound volumes and some correspondence. A bound portfolio book, Projects in Architecture and Urban Designs, contains photocopies of Dorhofer's project drawings, pictures of completed buildings, and newspaper articles regarding her work dating from 1966 to 1984. The book includes her student work from 1966-1968 and her architectural designs from 1969-1972. The collection also contains a publication by the International Women's University entitled Reader: Project Area "City and Gender," with chapters written by Dorhofer and Beverly Willis. Biographical material, a photo and two letters written to Milka Bliznakov are also included.

Biographical/Historical Information

Kerstin Dorhofer was born in Dresden in 1943. She received her architecture degree in 1969 from the Technical University of Berlin, where she stayed to practice until 1973. From 1973 to 1978 Dorhofer was an Assistant Professor at the University, where she received her doctoral degree with a dissertation about social housing in Germany. In 1979 Dorhofer formed an organization at the Free University of Berlin for women's studies. Since 1986 Dorhofer has taught at the University of Arts in Berlin, studying how gender and architecture are related and researching the work of women in architecture, especially in the building history of Berlin.
