Manufacturer: Virginia Polytechnic Institute Uniform Dept. V.E. Kelsey, Supt. Donor: Condition: top hook torn off; some stains; worn on back Special Markings: label: Mr. John E. McDonald {John Early McDonald, class of 1927, Private Company E?}, Date 34-{31?}-{39}. Numbers 27 1/2 and 18 1/2 also on label. Black stripe trim. Black plastic buttons on right, hooks on left. 2 gold pins on collar: 1. VPI with guns crossing above; 2. ROTC with flame between RO and TC. Five-pointed star {gold bullion?} on lower right sleeve {signifies VPI had the status of a “distinguished military college” by the War Department. Temple, Donning the Blue and Gray, p.62}. Three thin black stripes above wide black stripe on lower sleeve.
