University History

The photograph collection at Special Collections consists primarily of historical photographs of Virginia Tech, dating back to the 1890s. The collection is also home to historic images of Blacksburg, Montgomery County, the New River Valley, and Southwest Virginia in general. A photograph collection of faculty and staff from the university is maintained separately.

Scrapbook of Edmund Welch Hobbs (member of Virginia Polytechnic Institute's Class of 1932), focusing largely on events at Virginia Tech during Hobbs' years at the university and including programs, dance cards, newspaper clippings, and photographs.

The HokiePRIDE records include materials from the HokiePRIDE student group including items from all of its named iterations: Lambda Horizions; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Alliance; and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Alliance, including officer papers, office records, event planning information, resource pamphlets and directories, and copies of budgetary requests and accounting records.

Papers include field notes, charts and maps, and geological surveys and research results, covering the history of mineralogy and geology, especially in Virginia.

The Robert E. Hussey Notebooks contain three research report notebooks which includes chemistry notes with papers and samples interleafed between the pages.

The Associate Provost Patricia Hyer Papers contains materials from her tenure as Associate Provost at Virginia Tech, covering subjects such as diversity, women's issues, the AdvanceVT program, and strategic planning at the university. The collection also includes some biographical information. Materials date from 1937 to 2013.

The International Education/Study Abroad Records include a collection of brochures relating to study abroad programs between 1982 and 2007 and minutes, notes, schedules, and strategic planning documents from the University Council for International Programs from 1995-2003.
