Railroad

The Floyd H. Fish Railroad Collection contains articles, magazines, and newspaper clippings involving the railroad industry in the 20th century. The collection also includes books, cataloged for the Special Collections Rare Book Collection.

The papers include speeches; testimonies for the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and other federal committees; minutes; memoranda; Legislation-status reports; and reports and other materials from the Organization of American Railroads created or collected by John Palmer Fishwick. Materials date from 1971-1981.

Twenty-three diaries meticulously written by Chapman J. French, a civil engineer for Norfolk & Western Railway, made during the years of 1906-1912, 1928-1935, and 1937-1944. The diaries relate French's daily activities at home and at work; they also include such items as addresses, cost accounts, and major league baseball scores.

Map shows the coal beds at Flat-Top Coal Fields in McDowell County, West Virginia. It contains an index of openings in the coal bed, and a scale of sections, as well as a key to limestone and shale locations.

Letter sent from Tazewell, Virginia, in 1882 by A. H. and William Gibboney to W. R. Wharton, Esquire, concerning the breach of payment for workers that have left the corps of the Norfolk and Western Railroad (previously the Atlantic, Mississippi and Ohio Railroad).

The Arthur W. Grove Family Papers consists correspondence, receipts, and other documents relating to the family from 1900 to 1957.

Spanning 1861 to 1971, The Robert Selph Henry Papers consist of correspondence, subject files, photographs, and clippings concerning Henry's research on the Civil War, focusing on the Confederacy and Nathan Bedford Forrest, and also railroad history. This collection also contains Henry's Southern Historical Association (SHA) and Association of American Railroads papers.
