Montgomery County (Va.)

The collection consists of items from the early 1800s pertaining to the business dealings of Samuel Huff of Montgomery (now Floyd) County, Virginia. Materials include promissory notes, fines for Huff's failure to attend muster of the 75th Regiment of the Virginia Militia, and an indenture for land.

The Virginia Hummel collection consists of newspaper clippings, research notes, photographs, maps, and blueprints collected and created by Virginia Hummel of Blacksburg.

This collection includes 19th century personal papers (correspondence, legal document, land-related materials, and tax receipts) from the Henry Iddings Family of Floyd County, Virginia.

The bulk of the materials in the collection consist of handbooks, correspondence, receipts, programs, membership records, annual reports, and assessment reports of the Order, collected primarily from members in Blacksburg, Virginia. Also includes the minutes (1920-38) of the Blacksburg chapters of the Busy Bee and Maggie L. Walker (Secretary of the Independent Order of St. Luke) Circles.

Ferry Hill Ledger (1797-1804) and 3 of 6 volumes of Ingles Family Bible (1823); first available documentation of Mary Draper Ingles (kidnapped at infamous Draper Meadows Massacre and later escaped from Shawnee Indian captivity) and William Ingles, operator of Ingles Ferry, Ingles Ferry Hill Tavern, and blacksmith shop. Documentation of the family's extraordinary history, its ferry, and related enterprises provides scholars with unparalleled material for the study of Southwest Virginia.

Collection consists of three partial letters from John Ingles. The letters are poor copies, possibly thermo fax, and lack the first part of each letter. At least one letter mentions Christiansburg, Virginia.
