MSS. Manuscript Collections

A collection of sheet music comprised mostly of popular music from the first half of the twentieth century, including patriotic songs, novelty songs, instrumentals, and show tunes.

This collection contains a letter from Walters to an unnamed person on his having written a recommendation for the person's promotion.

Virginia election ticket for the November 6, 1861, Confederate election. It includes the names of candidates for sixteen districts; Jefferson Davis for President, and A.H. Stephens for Vice President; and state representative candidates, John R. Edmunds and Allen T. Caperton.

The collection consists of the Civil War diary of James Miles, an enlisted soldier in the 185th Regiment of the New York Infantry. The diary describes soldier life and spans from January to March 1865 until the author was killed in action.

Correspondence to Richard G. Noble of Alabama's 12th regiment, dated June 1863. It includes a letter from his sister, Emily Noble, and one from a Miss A. Thacker.

The collection contains a newspaper article about James M. Jeffries and the parole document from his date of parole from Appomattox, April 10, 1865.

The collection consists of the Civil War diary of Richard Colburn, an enlisted soldier of the 12th Infantry of the Army of the Potomac. The diary details camp life, daily activities, battles, and Colburn's captivity as a POW beginning in July 1862.

The collection contains selected transcriptions of correspondence and documents of the Randolph family of Virginia. These documents depict family situations, events leading up to the civil war, and conditions during the war.
