John H. Roberts Letter,
The collection consists of a letter dated June 5, 1864 and written by John H. Roberts of the 14th New York Heavy Artillery on a "battlefield near Mechanicsville & 10 miles from Richmond."
Atwell W. Robertson Letter,
The collection includes a letter from Atwell W. Robertson to Captain William C. Jeffress, written from Jenning's Ordinary, Virginia (Nottoway County) in July 1863. The majority of the letter includes news from home about Robertson's family, common friends, and information about local farming.
James I. Robertson Jr. Papers
Research notes, manuscripts, typescript drafts, working copies and galley proofs for books and articles written by Virginia Tech's Alumni Distinguished Professor of History James I. Robertson Jr., 1982-2001. Also contains a small set of general materials which includes items related to the preservation of lands adjacent to Manassas National Battlefield Park.
David Tobias Robinson Confederate Company List
Confederate soldier in the Civil War. Manuscript list of Company E, 4th Virginia Volunteer Regiment, written by Robinson, listing rank, age, eye and hair color, occupation, and other information about the men in the company, most of them from Southwest Virginia counties. Also includes an itemized list of clothing distributed to each man.
George W. Rock Correspondence,
The collection consists of six letters from Pvt. George W. Rock to a "Miss Ardelia" written between December 1863 and February 1865.
Roll of Buffalo [Virginia] Guards
Typescript listing of men in a Confederate regiment from Buffalo, Virginia (later West Virginia), and the Kanawha Valley, that mustered into service May 13, 1861, during the Civil War. Soon became part of the 36th Virginia Infantry as Company A, under John McGausland's command. Lists officers (including Captain William E. Fife and First Lieutenant B.B. Sterrett) and privates, with indication of whether or not they were killed, wounded, or had died.
William Henry Ruse Correspondence
Soldier in the 97th Ohio Regiment in the Civil War. Letters written to Maggie Stewart of Adamsville, Ohio. Three letters from Nashville, Tennessee, writing of his feelings for her, his dream that the war had ended, and how he misses home. One letter from Point Lookout, Maryland, about how soldiers at Point Lookout are attending religious meetings.
James H. Saye Correspondence
Minister in South Carolina during the Civil War. Correspondence consists of three letters from Saye to relatives. Despairs that there is a respectable corps of speculators who are ready for any enterprise to make money and urges his brother to accept payment of a debt in Confederate money, for the financial situation in the CSA government will be crippled if no one uses the money.
